## Description

FnlOwl turns a blog post into an email list. One widget captures the lead, delivers
your lead magnet and starts your follow-up emails, so you do not need a separate
popup plugin and email service wired together.

A short overview of the plugin (under two minutes):

This plugin connects your WordPress site to your FnlOwl account. It adds:

 * an **FnlOwl Widget** block and an `[fnlowl id="wg_..."]` shortcode, to place
a widget inside a post or page
 * a **Settings > FnlOwl** page, where you enter your site key once
 * consent-first loading: nothing from FnlOwl loads until your own consent manager
   says the visitor has agreed

FnlOwl supports six kinds of widget: lead magnet, popup, survey, announcement bar,
quiz and calculator. You build them in your FnlOwl account.

**What happens when a visitor submits a widget:** the lead is saved to your FnlOwl
account, the lead magnet email is delivered with an unsubscribe link, and your follow-
up sequence starts.

**This plugin requires a FnlOwl account.** The plugin is free. The FnlOwl service
has a 7-day free trial, then paid plans: $9 a month for up to 500 leads a month,
$27 for up to 2,500 and $81 for up to 7,500. Every plan includes all six widget
kinds and the follow-up automation; the plans differ in monthly limits (leads, websites,
widgets and emails), and the “Powered by FnlOwl” badge is removed on the $27 and
$81 plans. See [pricing](https://fnlowl.com/pricing/).

The plugin does not load FnlOwl until your site’s consent manager signals that the
visitor has accepted the category you choose. This keeps the choice of consent category
and policy with the site owner.

### External services

This plugin requires the FnlOwl service to display and process widgets. It makes
no connection until the site’s consent mechanism grants permission.

After consent, the plugin loads `https://cdn.fnlowl.com/embed.js`. The embed connects
to `https://api.fnlowl.com` to obtain the configured widget and record a widget
view. These requests include the site key, widget identifier, standard browser request
metadata such as IP address and referring origin, and the browser’s normal request
headers.

When a visitor submits a widget, the embed sends the data entered into that widget,
such as an email address and quiz or survey answers, plus the referrer. FnlOwl uses
this data to display the widget, count views, capture leads, deliver the requested
lead magnet, and run the account owner’s configured follow-up or integrations.

After consent, the embed stores a per-widget cooldown timestamp in the visitor’s
browser local storage so dismissed or completed widgets are not repeatedly shown.
It does not store form answers there.

FnlOwl’s [Terms of Service](https://fnlowl.com/policy/terms/) and [Privacy Policy](https://fnlowl.com/policy/privacy/)
apply to this service.

## Blocks

This plugin provides 1 block.

 *   FnlOwl widget

## Installation

 1. Install and activate the plugin.
 2. Go to **Settings > FnlOwl** and enter the site key from FnlOwl **Settings > Install**.
 3. Configure your consent manager or theme to run this after the visitor grants your
    chosen consent category:
 4. window.fnlowlConsentGranted = true; document.dispatchEvent(new Event(‘fnlowl_consent_granted’));
 5. Add the **FnlOwl Widget** block, or use `[fnlowl id="wg_your_widget_id"]`, where
    an in-content widget should appear.

Until step 3 occurs, the plugin does not load the FnlOwl CDN script or connect to
FnlOwl services.

## FAQ

### Do I need a FnlOwl account?

Yes. The plugin only places widgets that you create in your FnlOwl account, and
it needs the site key from that account. Sign up at [fnlowl.com](https://fnlowl.com).

### Is the plugin free?

The plugin is free and licensed GPLv2 or later. The FnlOwl service it connects to
has a 7-day free trial and then paid plans from $9 a month. See [pricing](https://fnlowl.com/pricing/).

### Why is nothing loading after activation?

The plugin is consent-gated. Configure your consent manager or theme to set `window.
fnlowlConsentGranted` to `true` and dispatch the `fnlowl_consent_granted` event
after the visitor accepts your selected category.

### Which consent managers does it work with?

Any consent manager or theme that can run a line of JavaScript when the visitor
accepts the category you choose.

### Do I need to edit my theme?

Only if your consent manager cannot run custom JavaScript after consent. The FnlOwl
setup guide documents the event interface.

### Where do I find the widget ID?

Open the widget in the FnlOwl dashboard and use the `wg_...` identifier from its
URL.

### Can I use it without the block editor?

Yes. Use the `[fnlowl id="wg_your_widget_id"]` shortcode instead of the block.

### What data does the plugin send to FnlOwl?

Nothing, until the visitor has consented. After consent, see the **External services**
section above for exactly what is sent and when.

### What happens to my data if I deactivate or delete the plugin?

Deleting the plugin removes the saved site key from your WordPress database. Your
widgets and leads stay in your FnlOwl account, and you can export leads as CSV with
the FnlOwl CLI.

### Where can I get help?

Use this plugin’s support forum on WordPress.org, or the [FnlOwl support page](https://fnlowl.com/policy/support/).
