## Description

MisticEase turns supported video URLs into popup thumbnails or title links without
custom HTML, extra classes, or special attributes.

Paste a YouTube, YouTube Shorts, Vimeo, or Dailymotion URL into a page or post,
save it, and MisticEase converts the supported URL into a clickable thumbnail. Use`
n/` before a supported video URL to show a title link instead.

Fetched thumbnails are stored in the uploads directory and reused on later page
views. Media Library images can also open in a popup viewer and can be grouped automatically
for sequential viewing.

MisticEase includes floating popup controls, cache management, inline guidance,
and Multisite network settings. A live demo is available on the [MisticEase demo page](https://mitum.me/misticease/).

### Features

 * Convert supported video URLs into popup thumbnails or title links.
 * Use Slash Markup Core for thumbnail width, popup width, image captions, and custom
   labels.
 * Cache thumbnails locally in the WordPress uploads directory.
 * Use draggable floating popups on supported screen sizes.
 * Open supported Media Library images in a popup viewer.
 * Configure Multisite network settings.

### Quick start

Block and Classic Editors use the same notation.

Add a supported video URL to a page or post and save:

    ```
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PASTE_A_REAL_VIDEO_ID_HERE
    ```

Use `n/` when you want a title link:

    ```
    n/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PASTE_A_REAL_VIDEO_ID_HERE<h3>Slash Markup Core</h3>
    ```

Slash Markup Core lets you write short instructions directly before a supported
URL. It is not a shortcode. The instruction must touch the URL without a space,
line break, or HTML tag between them.

Common prefixes:

 * `t300/` sets the thumbnail display width to about 300 pixels.
 * `p900/` sets the popup width to about 900 pixels.
 * `n/` shows a title link instead of a thumbnail for supported video URLs.
 * `ttl My Caption/` is mainly for image captions or image-related description text.
 * `/My Link/` shows a custom text label.
 * `///` can be used as an explicit URL end marker.

Examples:

    ```
    t300/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PASTE_A_REAL_VIDEO_ID_HERE
    p900/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PASTE_A_REAL_VIDEO_ID_HERE
    n/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PASTE_A_REAL_VIDEO_ID_HERE
    /Watch this video/p900/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PASTE_A_REAL_VIDEO_ID_HERE
    /Open image/ttl Image caption/t220/p900/https://example.com/wp-content/uploads/image.jpg
    ```

A custom label must be placed at the beginning and wrapped with slashes. If used,
MisticEase displays a text link instead of a thumbnail.

The `///` marker is useful when a URL is immediately followed by punctuation or
other text.

MisticEase can apply a `t.../` thumbnail display width to a directly pasted image
URL only when the URL points to an image under the same site’s `wp-content` path.

Unsupported video-service URLs, such as channel pages, playlists, user pages, and
search pages, are kept as lightweight external links.

Supported pasted video URLs include common YouTube, Vimeo, and Dailymotion video
URLs, including URLs with query strings. YouTube popup playback uses YouTube’s privacy-
enhanced nocookie embed mode.

### Floating UX mode and images

A popup can be dragged to switch into floating window mode. On supported desktop
and tablet-sized screens, MisticEase can keep one video popup and one Media Library
image popup open at the same time.

If another popup of the same type is opened while one is already floating, the existing
popup is replaced. If the existing floating popup is pinned, it stays open and the
pin control flashes.

On smartphone-sized screens, floating mode is disabled and MisticEase uses the normal
single-popup behavior.

Media Library images can open in a popup when an image block or text link points
to a supported image file in the WordPress uploads directory. Supported popup image
formats are JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, and AVIF. SVG files are not handled by this popup
feature.

If you already use another gallery plugin, the image popup feature can be turned
off in the settings.

### Cache and external services

When a supported video URL is first displayed, MisticEase fetches the thumbnail
image and stores it locally in the WordPress uploads directory. The cached local
thumbnail is reused on later page views.

The maximum cache size can be configured in the settings panel. When the cache limit
is reached, older cached thumbnails are removed automatically. A scheduled cleanup
also runs once every 30 days.

MisticEase connects to external services when a supported video thumbnail has not
yet been cached locally. These requests are used only to retrieve thumbnail images
or thumbnail-related metadata for supported video URLs.

The `n/` title-link feature may request provider metadata to resolve the video title
when displayed. MisticEase does not create persistent database cache entries for
these title-link titles.

When a visitor plays a video, the browser also connects to the original video service
for playback.

External services used by supported video features include YouTube, YouTube nocookie
playback, Vimeo, and Dailymotion.

## FAQ

### What video services are supported?

MisticEase supports common YouTube, Vimeo, and Dailymotion video URLs.

### Where are thumbnails stored?

Thumbnail images are stored in the WordPress uploads directory. Single-site thumbnails
use `/wp-content/uploads/misticease/`; Multisite subsites use folders such as `/
wp-content/uploads/sites/2/misticease/`.

### Does this plugin collect personal data?

MisticEase itself does not collect, store, or analyze personal information. Freemius
connection is optional and described in the “Freemius SDK and optional opt-in” section.

### Does this work with Multisite?

Yes. MisticEase includes network-wide settings for Multisite environments. When
a network cache cap is enforced, it applies as the same per-site cache limit for
each site.
